| Q: | Do I need to be a member to audition for a show? |
|---|---|
| A: | Membership is not required to audition. |
| Q: | If I get a lead part or I'm in the chorus, do I have to become a member? |
| A: | Yes. You are required to become a member (if you're not already) within the first 2 weeks of the rehearsal period. (See the membership page for details).
There are also show fees (currently set at $45 for musicals & plays and $20 for pantomimes) for all performers which must be paid within the first 4 weeks of the rehearsal period. |
| Q: | Does membership effect the outcome of the audition process? |
| A: | Generally no. Parts in all productions are based on talent and any other criteria determined by the Director which will be outlined at the orientation night. In the event that two people would be equally suitable for the role, then it is likely that a member would get the part over someone who was not associated with the society. |
| Q: | Do I have to attend the orientation night? |
| A: | Only if you want to know what is going on and you want an audition slot.
The orientation night is your chance to meet the Director, Musical Director and Choreographer, ask questions and for them to outline what it is they are looking for during the audition process. |
| Q: | I missed the orientation night, can I still audition? |
| A: | Generally yes. Unless we were swamped with interest, it would be unusual if you weren't able to get an audition time. It would require turning up on the audition night and perhaps having to wait for a bit. |
| Q: | What should I sing at the audition? Does it have to be from the show? |
| A: | Another reason you should have been at the orientation night! The answer to this is dependant on the Director and Musical Director.
Generally, have something prepared which best shows off your talent for the part you are after. That is likely to mean something from the show or something in a similar style. |
| Q: | Are auditions open or closed? |
| A: | Again, this is dependant on the Director and Musical Director and will have been outlined at the orientation night. You need to perform for the audition panel, so you shouldn't let it bother you if there are more people in the room. We understand that people get nervous. |
| Q: | Are any parts allocated prior to auditions? |
| A: | No! We aim to fill all lead parts from the audition process. |
| Q: | I just want to be in the chorus, do I have to audition? |
| A: | Generally no. If, as with Grease, there are a large number of interested people and only limited places, then yes you may need to. |
| The orientation night will answer these and any other questions that you want to ask. | |
| Q: | How long does membership last? |
|---|---|
| A: | Membership is based on a calendar year, with renewals due in January of each year. |
